WHITESBORO

Rooted in Scripture. Centered on Jesus. Lived out together.
FAITH THAT SHAPES HOW WE LIVE
We believe what we believe because of God’s Word. Our beliefs are not just statements on a page, they shape the way we worship, teach, serve, love our neighbors, raise our families, and walk with Jesus every day.
OUR STATEMENT OF FAITH
A closer look at the biblical beliefs that guide OneChurch.
BELIEFS
We believe every person has sinned and needs the grace, forgiveness, and restoration that only God can provide through Jesus.
As humans, without Christ, we have a sin problem. Sin is both doing what God said not to do and not doing what God asks us to do. Because of sin, every human being is guilty before God, and our relationship with Him is broken.
The good news is that even though sin carries a penalty, God has already done the work and paid the price through Jesus to restore our relationship with Him.
God took the initiative. He has already done His part to make a way for us to be restored to Him. Now, each of us must individually accept what He has done for us through Jesus.
Romans 3:24 - and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.
Romans 5:8 - But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
There is only one God. He exists as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
Jesus Christ, the Son of God, lived on earth, died on a cross, and rose from the dead. Through His life, death, and resurrection, Jesus made a way for us to be forgiven, restored, and brought back into relationship with God.
Jesus is not one of many ways to God. He is the only hope for reconciliation between God and man.
John 3:16, John 14:6, Romans 10:9, Ephesians 2:8-10
We believe salvation is a gift from God. We cannot earn it through good works; we receive it by grace through faith in Jesus.
We believe we are saved by grace through faith alone. Salvation is not something we can work for, achieve, or earn. It is the gift of God through Jesus Christ.
Because salvation is based on God’s grace and not our performance, we can have confidence and security in what Jesus has done for us.
Good works do not save us, but a life changed by Jesus should lead us to live differently, love others, and walk in the purpose God created us for.
Ephesians 2:8-9 - For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast.
Ephesians 2:10 - For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works…
We believe that when a person chooses to follow Jesus, they are not alone. God fills believers with His presence through the Holy Spirit.
We believe that once you make the decision to follow Jesus, you are not alone. When you receive Jesus as your Lord and Savior, God fills you with His presence, and you become a temple of God’s Holy Spirit.
This means the Holy Spirit lives in believers just as the presence of God once filled the temple in Jerusalem. From the moment you receive Christ, you become a new creation, and the Holy Spirit begins working in your life.
The Holy Spirit changes you, shapes you, challenges you, and empowers you. He creates in you the desire and ability to pursue God and grow in your personal spiritual development.
1 Corinthians 6:19-20 - Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.
We believe the Holy Spirit convicts, counsels, leads, empowers, and equips believers to follow Jesus and build up the Church.
The Holy Spirit is actively at work in the world and in the life of every believer.
He convicts the world of sin and shows people their need for Jesus. He convinces believers of their new identity as the righteousness of God. He becomes our Counselor, leads us into truth, empowers us to be witnesses, and gives spiritual gifts to help encourage others and build up the body of Christ.
The Holy Spirit:
1. Convicts the world of the sin of not knowing Jesus
John 16:8 - And when he comes, He will convict the world of its sins, and of God’s righteousness, and of the coming judgment.
2. Convinces us of our new identity as the righteousness of God
John 16:8 - And when he comes, He will convict the world of its sins, and of God’s righteousness, and of the coming judgment.
2 Corinthians 5:21 - God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
3. Becomes our Counselor
John 14:16 - I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever;
4. Leads us into truth
John 14:17a - He is the Holy Spirit, who leads into all truth.
5. Empowers us to be a witness
Acts 1:8 - but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth.
6. Gives spiritual gifts to help and encourage others
1 Corinthians 12:7 - Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.
We believe baptism is a public profession of faith in Jesus and an outward declaration of the inward change that has already taken place.
Baptism is a public profession of faith in Christ. It is spiritually symbolic of the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus.
We believe Scripture teaches that all who repent and believe in Jesus Christ should be baptized. Baptism does not save us, but it is an act of obedience as we follow the example of Christ.
At OneChurch, we baptize through immersion. Baptism declares outwardly what has already happened inwardly.
Mark 1:9-11 - At that time Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. Just as Jesus was coming up out of the water, he saw heaven being torn open and the Spirit descending on him like a dove. And a voice came from heaven: ‘You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.’
